Maine Camps LLC is a design-build group with a love for traditional Maine camps. Our aim is to design and build small-scale four-season camps that rest in their settings as though they had always been there, the kind of camps with screen doors and porches facing the lake. Simple durable places of rest and quiet that families may hold and return to for generations.
Our current project on the Five Kezar Ponds, is a 75- to 90-minute drive northwest of Portland. These ponds have clear water just right for swimming. Small mountains rise from their shores and more serious hiking in the White Mountains is just a short drive to the west. A 20-minute drive to the south are the towns of Bridgton and Norway. We are excited by the possibilities for the idyllic four-acre piece of land there where we are building two camps on Jewett Pond. Shown here are pictures of the lot and the 250 feet of waterfront. Jewett pond is 32 acres and has about a dozen other cottages on it. Boat traffic is scant, and boats are limited to small outboards, so it is quiet and perfect for canoes and kayaks and paddleboards.
We are building two “camp-o-miniums” — we may have made up that term, but it means free-standing privately owned homes with shared elements on the property including the road in and waterfront.
The camp nearest the pond (Red Oak) will be about 100’ from the water's edge. The second cottage,(White Pine) will be about 250’ from the water, but still have views of the pond. Both will share the waterfront and a dock where there is ample room and the possibility for future additions such as a screen house — a simple structure near the dock that would be a gathering place, with a bathroom, a few bunks, and a fire pit.

Both camps are modest (about 800-1000 sq ft), simple, adorable, comfortable, with a kitchen that opens to the dining/living space and seamlessly flows to the porch. Each will have two bedrooms (one a master and the other more of a bunk room. White pine will have a screen porch separate and large enough to double as a three-season sleeping porch. Red oak will have additional sleeping space in a loft ), bathroom with shower, and laundry. The Red Oak will be single-story, and White Pine two-stories. They are designed to have the character of a seasonal camp, but will be insulated and furnished with the amenities of a year-round home.
If a buyer commits early in the process, the designs can be customized. The price could be expanded or contracted by adding or subtracting features. There is the possibility for solar power and an off-the-grid electrical system should a buyer want a smaller carbon footprint. The design and construction of these cabins will be accomplished largely by Maine Camps LLC. Among the four owners, there are decades of design and building experience and a dedication to high-quality work done with locally sourced eco-friendly materials
We anticipate that the annual cost for shared maintenance of the driveway, property taxes, Five Kezar Ponds Association membership, etc, will be perhaps $3000 or so per owner.
An owner would have the option of renting out the cabin when not using it. The going rate in the area is about $1000/week for the summer season.
We are particularly excited about this beautiful parcel and the camps we are building. If you are interested in knowing more about them, email us at:
